A Hard Delivery

I have been a writer for some time. My first published book, A Case of Mistaken Identity, was a hard labor. If you have a child, you know how the first labor is the hardest. This has been a running joke in my family. My sister’s third birth was so easy the child walked out. I’m sure you have heard that one before. This was the case with my first book. I didn’t know what I was doing. As you know, whenever you do something new, there is a bit of a learning curve. You have to give yourself some grace. So what was the process for my first book?

Pages

I wrote my manuscript in Pages and ran into problems when I brought it into Word because of incompatibility issues. From there, I had to do a nuclear format, strip it of all formatting such as font type and font styles in Text Edit. Rewrote it in Word, and then I had a clean manuscript, and that was just the print version. Then there was the Kindle version. I brought my formatted piece into Kindle Create. A big no – no! So I then went back to Word and made a copy of the manuscript I had for print, brought it into Text Edit and again did a nuclear format. Brought it back into Kindle Create, and it was good.

All of that to say, forget Word, Kindle Create, Pages, etc. Pay the extra cost and get Atticus. 🌺

Say goodbye to formatting and treating Kindle books like a separate project. Choose from one of the already formatted templates for KDP, Ingram Spark, or Lulu. Then, when you are done with your manuscript, export it in print and Kindle versions, ready to upload.

My Process

Eight books later, I have come up with a system I rather like. For my children’s books, I use Canva. For my poetry, I use Reedsy, and for all my other books, I use my very trusted friend Atticus. Atticus has freed me to do just that write, as all writers do. No more formatting, no more Microsoft Word, no more pulling my hair out.
