For with God nothing shall be impossible. Luke 1:37

Have you ever thought of self publishing your book? There is freedom in self publishing your book. No longer do we have to find an agent to represent our book and send our manuscripts to publishers who are more interested in well-known names. The publishers no longer have a monopoly on the market. Self publishing is huge and many are finding a freedom they could have never known via traditional publishing. With God’s help and ample resources, we have just enough of a chance to be a successful author as those who go through a publisher.
Self Publishing, Where to Begin
Where to begin? I’m going to answer that question with another. How does one build a house? They make a plan, right? They take inventory on what they have, what they lack, and then they go to work on making it happen. It’s the same thing for self publishing. They say you will find the time and the way to accomplish what you really love. Your story matters! People are waiting to hear your story!
Why You Should Consider Self Publishing
Why should you consider self publishing your book(s)? There are many reasons you should consider self publishing. I will cover these reasons in my post. First, your time is yours. Did you know that if you were to make a pitch for your manuscript to a publisher and they said yes, that it could take up to a year before your book is available? With self publishing, you decide what tasks you want to do and what tasks you rather assign to others. What do I mean by that? You can be the captain of your destiny.
With a little insight, research, and learning, you could create your illustrations, format your book, even edit it yourself, then venture out with your book. We are in an information age that is so vast that we can plot our course. Take, for example, Udemy. Did you know there are Editors on Udemy teaching how to edit a book? Did you know there is software out there that will format your book for you, which saves you time and money? No longer do you need to hire someone to format your book.
Hiring an illustrator can be expensive. Have you ever considered creating your own illustrations? It’s hard to explain to someone your vision and to find someone that can run with it. Not to mention you are now on their schedule, it could take six months, and depending on the project, a price tag of $3500. You may think I am exaggerating, but that is on the low side regarding children’s book illustrators. Self publishing is the way to go if you want more of a say over your words, your book design, and your time.
Finishing Your Book Through Self Publishing
Then there’s the finish line, the satisfaction of a job well done. It’s so amazing to hold that published book in your hands. To know that you accomplished what you set out to do. To have the freedom to express yourself through your words, your style of design, and then to market it with your voice, your way instead of someone else’s. As a self publisher, I love being authentic to who God called me to be. God is my partner in my writing endeavor and with Him, I’m reaching out to people through the words on the pages of my story. How about you? I hope you can see by this blog post that there’s freedom in self publishing your book. Do you think it’s time to consider self publishing? Write that story that is in you. If not now, when?
